What is your career background?
My financial career spans over fifty years! In 1968, I qualified as a Chartered Accountant at a City firm. I was made partner in 1970 and became senior partner in 1981.
After retiring from the firm in 1990, I moved into consultancy work for a number of companies, some being AIM-listed. I have been involved with the floatation of companies on AIM since the mid-90s, one of which was ValiRx back in 2006.
What does your role at ValiRx involve?
As Finance Director, I am responsible for maintaining all accounting and payroll records for group companies. My role also involves working as company secretary and ensuring that all statutory matters are filed quickly and efficiently.
I work closely with the ValiRx board, attending all meetings – both formal and informal –taking the minutes, and providing monthly management accounts as well as weekly reports detailing bank transactions to date and a running cash flow for at least six months in the future. As well as preparing routine forecasts and budgets, I input into financial and commercial strategy development and build financial models for the company, particularly in recent times, as we move into a more complex financial period, with incoming as well as outgoing cash.
Although I may not understand all the science my ValiRx colleagues talk about, I believe that a well-run company is always underpinned by strong finances, regardless of the sector, and I like to think that the team can always rely on my financial knowledge!
What is it like working with the ValiRx team?
I find working with the Board to be an enjoyable and collaborative experience. Each member has their specialist area of expertise, and we work well together with the shared goal of achieving the best possible outcomes for ValiRx.
It has been incredibly satisfying seeing the company develop during my time at ValiRx, and I look forward to continuing to support the team’s ambitious plans.
